Social Media Policy
Social media is an integral part of online communications. All social media accounts for all CUIMC entities, including schools, departments and programs, must be registered with the CUIMC Office of Communications. CUIMC Communications can provide guidance and strategic support.
No social media communication, whether public posting or private messaging, is HIPAA compliant. Please do not engage in the exchange of patient information online, as it violates federal law. If someone tries to initiate a conversation that may be covered by HIPAA, do whatever possible to move the conversation off social media to a more secure means of communication.
Crisis communications is exclusively under the supervision of the CUIMC Office of Communications and NewYork-Presbyterian Communications. Do not post about a crisis without the instruction and support of CUIMC Communications.
