Social Media Policy
Social media is an integral part of online communications. We encourage any CUIMC entity to reach out to the Office of Communications before starting a new social media account. CUIMC Communications can provide guidance and strategic support.
No social media communication, whether public posting or private messaging, is HIPAA compliant. Please do not engage in the exchange of patient information online, as it violates federal law. If someone tries to initiate a conversation that may be covered by HIPAA, do whatever possible to move the conversation off social media to a more secure means of communication.
Crisis communications is exclusively under the supervision of the CUIMC Office of Communications and NewYork-Presbyterian Communications. Do not post about a crisis without the instruction and support of CUIMC Communications.
